Ryo of Crystal Lake 

How did Crystal Lake start out? 

In 2002, YD and Shinya formed Crystal Lake named after ”Friday the 13th” and ”Romancing SaGa”.  I and Gaku joined the band in 2012.

What are some of your favorite venues? 

Antiknock, a landmark of Japanese punk rock/hardcore scene.

What are some of your musical influences (both you and your band if possible to answer)  

For the band, 90s hardcore and melodic hardcore like Shai Hulud.  I was inspired by death metal bands like Morbid Angel and Suffocation.  They are the great influence of my vocal style.

What are some bands you been jamming?

Don Broco.  They're stylish but energetic.

What is the Local “scene” like (positives and negatives)  

Many good bands came out and some young bands are leading the scene in Japan. 

If you could pick a song to cover what would it be? 

Sing by Ed Sheeran.  It's fun to sing and I wonder if (Crystal Lake) played it heavier.

What is your favorite food to eat? 

Pizza in New York is a national treasure of the US.

What your favorite song you have put out as a band? 

True North.  Its catchy chorus and atmospheric breakdowns are my favorite parts in this album.

If you could have a dream job (besides music) what would it be?

A pilot.  I wonder what the life of Bruce Dickinson is like.

If you could play another music instrument what would it be and why?  

Drummer. I love to beat the rhythm and I always hear it in my head.  I wanted to be ”TR-808” when I was a child.

If you could be a video game character what would it be?

I don't want to fight with zombies, but it's Frank West from Dead Rising.  He's the strongest man on the earth.

What is your memorable moment with the band?

Knot Fest in Japan.  Thousands of people before my eyes. It is unforgettable.

In your opinion who puts on the best show? / Favorite show you've been to

Deftones in Summer Sonic 2006 and Knot Fest 2016.

What would your dream tour be?

With Deftones.  It's been my dream for 10 years.

Favorite TV shows / Favorite Movies  

Avengers.  I love Marvel comics.

Favorite Video Games  

Katamari Damacy.

Do you have an plans to tour the USA?  

We hope we can make it in 2017.  I know a lot of people waiting for us and want to live up to their expectations.

We're going on tours in Japan called Alpha & Omega Tour in January and True North Tour with no supporting acts from February to March.

2017 is 15th anniversary for Crystal Lake.  So let's see what happens.
